Battery Tender
Why use a Battery Tender?
What’s the number one maintenance issue we encounter at Metro Moto? A dead battery that will no longer recharge. The reason: a scooter has been left sitting too long. When does this normally happen? Over the winter months. Do yourself a favor this year and hook up a battery tender to your Vespa and save your battery. Simply hook up “pig tails” or quick disconnect leads to your battery just once (we’ll even do it for you), and you can quickly hook up a Battery Tender charger. Deltran, the maker of the Battery Tender claims that motorcycle owners that use their Battery Tender see battery lives extend over 3 years versus just 6 months when not using one. Given that Piaggio Batteries for some models are over $100.00+, investing in a $40.00 charger makes sense – not to mention the hassle of having to pick up and install a new battery, and the delicate disposal process involved.
Like many of the products at Metro Moto, we looked for the best quality battery tender available in the market. Deltran’s Battery Tender is official manufacturer of BMW and Harley battery chargers, and was selected by Rider Magazine as a “Product of the Year”. It is also endorsed by the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) and the American Motorcycle Institute (AMI).
Battery Tender chargers all have the following five characteristics:
Fully Automatic: At the end of a charging cycle, the charger automatically switches its output voltage to a safe, storage, or float level.
Full Output Power at Low AC Line Conditions
Zero to Minimal Current Draw from Batteries: When the AC power is disconnected, there is zero draw.
Compact and Lightweight
Visual Indication of Charge State
In addition, there are a number of different options on the various Battery Tenders: spark free operation, reverse polarity protection, and continuous short circuit protection.
